HYDROGEN ANALYSIS IN ACCORDANCE WITH UNI ISO 14687 AND UNI EN 17124
In the European strategy of ecological transition and decarbonization, one of the most innovative projects is dedicated to hydrogen, thanks to its applicability to the most transversal production sectors. In particular, stands out a technology that involves the use of hydrogen fuel cells.
The UNI EN 17124 and UNI ISO 14687 standards have been issued to prevent potential risks associated with hydrogen processing. In fact, they establish the maximum permitted levels of various gaseous impurities in hydrogen beyond which the fuel cell could be damaged. These limits are extremely low, so appropriate sampling systems and excellent analyzers are required to ensure accurate measurements.
Apt solution for the analysis of hydrogen and its components in compliance with THE UNI EN 17124 and UNI ISO 14687 standards is the ARIES MGS automated system that can be configured with different technologies:
- Gas chromatography (GC-DID or TCD)
- Laser (CRDS)
- Mass Spectrometer (MS)
- IR Spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Flame Ionization Detector (FID)
- Cell-electrochemistry (O2)
- Electrolytic sensor (P2O5)

All these methods can be used, in combination or individually, within a single system, the ARIES MGS, for the analysis at various points and the measurement of impurities during the entire life cycle of hydrogen: from purification to final certification in accordance with ISO 14687 and EN 17124.
Our systems are also completely managed by the proprietary XGAS software, which is extremely versatile and functional. XGAS stores all the measured data for complete traceability of the lots, strictly following the ALCOA+ rule, producing final reports and all the necessary documentation.
In addition, the XGAS app is now available, which allows the operator to remotely monitor the ARIES MGS analysis system through a web interface instead of having to log in to the main PC.
